Sustainable Fashion Created by Academy Students Hits the Red Carpet
Actress Ginnifer Goodwin wore an environmentally chic dress created by Academy of Art University
students to the 20th Anniversary Environmental Media Association Awards!
A group of lucky
Academy of Art University fashion students can now add celebrity styling to their resume since
actress Ginnifer Goodwin wore their design to Sunday night’s 20th Anniversary Environmental Media
Awards. Students Priscilla Guimarais, Kumiko Haruyama, Nui Tanapornwattana, Audrey Wang and
Tramaine Tillman created a collection of sustainable dresses for a class project using processes
and practices that ensure sustainability from inception to completion. The final collection was
named 1Oak (One Of A Kind).
The chic strapless dress worn by Goodwin, which falls just below the knee, is actually made
from hospital scrubs that would have normally been discarded. The scrubs have been treated, dyed
and pleated using sustainable practices.
In addition to being an outspoken vegan and gracing the covers of many magazines, Ginnifer
Goodwin is known for her roles in
Big Love,
He’s Just Not That Into You and the soon-to-be-released
A Single Man (Tom Ford’s directorial debut).
The Environmental Media Association Awards honor film and television productions and
individuals that increase public awareness of environmental issues and inspire personal action on
these issues. This year marked the 20th Anniversary of the awards on October 25, 2009 at the
Paramount lot in Los Angeles, California.
