The Academy’s team, lead by Max Niehaus, Industrial Design Shop Manager and instructor at the Academy, have been creating face shields with 3D printers and donated to healthcare providers and front-line workers in San Francisco.
The 3D printed face shields are used in addition to face masks to help stop spreading the virus. We adopted the face shield design devised by a Swedish company, 3DVerkstan (Swedish for “3D Workshop”), and made modifications based on feedback and advice from medical providers and our community. If you have access to 3D printers and want to help our community, here is what you can do.
Download the most up-to-date 3D files from the link below. Once you download the file, you will find a version with a single frame and a version of stuck frames. You can download either an STL file, which includes the just model itself or 3MF file, which gives you a head start on selecting settings.
Once you finish producing the face shield parts, please send the address below. Staff at Academy of Art University will assemble, and sanitize the deliver the face shields to organizations who need them most. Attn: ArtU 3D Print Lab 79 New Montgomery San Francisco, CA 94105
