In the event of an emergency that makes onsite facilities unavailable, Academy of Art University has robust infrastructure, staffing, and resources to support remote instruction for onsite students.
The Academy has offered online courses since 2002 and currently utilizes the online learning management system Brightspace. This platform includes tools for instruction, assignment submission, feedback, grading, interaction and communication. Every course, both onsite and online, includes a semester-specific shell. Online courses include prebuilt content that will be made available in onsite courses to supplement or replace synchronous instruction.
Synchronous class meetings can continue via video chat. Every faculty and staff member has access to a licensed Zoom account. A dedicated Academy team provides user support for Zoom.
The Academy provides productivity and creative software. Every student and faculty member receives access to Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud. Certain programs offer remote access to specialized, processor-intensive software. Lab tech support is available via Zoom.
The Online Help Desk offers support to students and faculty, by phone or email, from 8:00 AM to midnight, seven days a week.
