Tomutsu Takishima
Full-Time Faculty
School of Fine Arts
As a third-generation painter, Tomutsu Takishima’s passion for art began at an early age within his father’s studio in Japan. He focuses on the human form in real-life situations, attracted to the design offered by the figure’s natural physical movement in their environment. Tomutsu’s work has been seen in many exhibitions, including Merced Multicultural Art Center in 1999, Wendt Gallery in 2007/2008, and Hirado Duch Trading Post Museum in 2022. His awards include an MFA Fine Art Painting Award from ArtU in 1998, a first oil award from Society of Western Artists national open show in 1999 and an Outstanding Faculty from ArtU in 2003. Tomutsu received his BFA with distinction in Painting and Drawing from ArtU in 1994 and received his MFA in Painting from ArtU in 1998.
